ज्ञानानन्द मयं देवं निर्मलस्फटिकाकृतिम् ।
आधारं सर्व विद्यानां हयग्रीवम् उपास्महे
Sri Krishna in bhagavad gita says
चातुर्वर्ण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागशः ।
तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्ध्यकर्तारमव्ययम्
The four divisions of people are created by Sri Krishna based on the gunAs and karmAs one has to perform.
Of the four divisions, the brahmanA 8is one who has high satwa gunA(High intelligence, Noble thoughts, Perform austerity,etc) and karmAs ordained for them are six fold
- adhyayanam -Learn the VedA
- adhyApakam -Teach VedAs
- Yajanam – Perform YagAs
- YAjanam – Conduct YagAs
- DhAnam – Give alms to right people
- Pratigraham – Receive alms
By the birth from womb of the mother one is born into a brahmin family. At the age of 7, the upanayanam samskAram is performed. This samskAram makes him dvijah – Twice born. This samskAra makes him a brahmanA which bestows upon him to carry out the karmA of a brahmanA.
The basic karmA as a brahmanA is one has to perform Tri KAla SandhyAvandanam. As per the scriptures
संध्याहीनो अशुचिः नित्यं अनर्ह सर्व कर्मसु ।
One who does not perform SAndhyAvandanam is not eligible to perform any other karmAs.
